Senior Army Instructor: LTC Wandke

Richard D. Tex Wandke was born in San Antonio, Texas to Clarissa Alice Dinsmore and Alfred Wandke. He lived in Mexico until the age of nine. His father died when he was five years of age. His mother returned to Maine and raised her two sons on her own. Tex Wandke graduated from Lisbon High School, Higgins Classical Institute and the University of Maine. He graduated as a distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned as a Regular Army Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1963. He attended the Army Airborne, Ranger School, Armed Forces Staff College, Material maintenance management Course and held Staff Position from Company to Army Staff. He had three tours of Duty in Vietnam, one in Korea and one in Japan. Colonel Wandke was in Vietnam when the Armistice was signed on 27 January 1973. He was the last Ranger Advisor ordered out of Vietnam. He retired form active duty in 1988. He taught High School ROTC at Benjamin Franklin High School from 1988-1996. He is currently teaching at Santiago High School in Garden Grove, California. His decorations include the Distinguished Service Cross, Two Silver Stars, Three Purple Hearts, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, three Air Medals, the Combat Infantry Badge, Airborne Wings and the Ranger Tab. He was awarded several Service Foreign Awards and The Vietnamese Ranger Badge. He is married to Ichiko N. Wandke. They have six children and eight grandchildren. He was the National Commander of the Legion of Valor from 1994-1995. He is currently involved with several Veteran Organizations.

Army Instructor: 1SGT Stein

Norman C. Stein was born in Kankakee, Illinois on May 5, 1954. He lived in Kankakee and East St. Louis Il. Burbank California and San Jose Ca. Norm Stein graduated from Lynbrook High School in 1972 and joined the Army in October of the same year. 1SG Stein attended basic training at Ft. Ord, ca.; receive his scout training at Ft. Knox, Ky. 1Sg Stein has served two tours in Korea, three at Fort Carson, Colorado, three tours at Fort Knox, Ky., a tour as an Army recruiter, a tour in Germany with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, deployment to the Persian Gulf during Operation Dessert Storm and a tour as an instructor for the Senior ROTC program at California State University Fullerton. He retired from active duty on December of 1994 and started the JROTC program at Santiago High School in January of 1995. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, 7 Army commendation Medals and two Army Achievement Medals. He has been married to Elizabeth Stein since 1987. They have two children He is involved with several Veteran Organizations.
